If you put this inside the popup, we'll be forced to open every popup to have an idea of the source...and nobody will do that (so will be a useless feature).
instead, we can go with LKD70 approach: a "search engine" symbol inside the orb.
it's unintrusive, but if you really need it you can look at it, simultaneously for every result in the list.
Will we have to put also a symbol for the others engines? (a "B" for Bing, etc?)
I think that we can think about it later; however, I don't imagine why someone would know exactly the index that has generated the result (other than curiosity or general knowledge).
Instead, knowing that is from Kagi has a product feedback ("look, Kagi index is good") and a privacy value for the users ( maybe someone trust Kagi index more than others)

IMO the solution from LKD70 is much better as you can really describe what is it instead of waiting for the user to hover the mouse above it to understand why there is a random icon dropped on the middle of the popup.

Knowing which results are from Kagi is a huge move into letting the user understand what he is really paying for, I would say it's much more important than the number of searches for example. And as I said, there are still space on the crystal orb's fields, and if you think there is already too much, you can just reconsider about useless info like "https" and "fast".

I think the "G" crystal ball is a nice idea! It looks good. Maybe we could do that for pure Kagi index results, and if its from any other source, show more info in the crystal ball.

z64 I like this placement for other indexes.
However: do you think would be a bad idea something like source: Bing right aligned (and maybe smaller)?
space shouldn't be an issue there for the moment...and this popup is only text-driven (the icons at the bottom are "cosmetic", because we have text)

Vlad "My" approach is an attempt to minimize the visibility of this change unless you're specifically looking for it.

I basically never look at the globe unless the colour of it has changed - Adding an icon inside of the existing globe shouldn;t draw any inattentive eyes - only drawing the attention of those actively seeking it.

If it adds an excessive overhead to load times I'd likely move away from this however - Though my main interest is to show how viable Kagi's own search indexer(s) are. Also to show which search indexers (bing/google/other) provide the most useful results to us (in the case of checking the extended information when clicking the globe). It's 90% curiosity, 10% wanting to brag about how great Kagis results are.

My intention is that I wouldn't want this information to be distracting - it is not that important compared to everything else we show. (It is not even about the result, or the domain it came from)

There are only a few sources we get results from. If the user doesn't know the logo already, a quick tooltip will inform them, and they'll probably not need to look at it again.

We just need to find a way that is consistent and does not distract.

When I say consistent, for example all "Interesting Finds" and "Blast from the Past" section results are 100% Kagi, and I am not sure we would be able to add a globe to those.

Perhaps a filter for "show only kagi results?" (but this of course needs to be explictitly turned on)

You could just add the symbol to the header of the section instead of every single link.

How about a list where users can choose their search sources from?

Another idea: Add the info fro which index a result is into the info panel. This would help demistify search and put users somewhat back into control. I feel like it would be very in line with Kagi's goals and ethos.

As of today we are showing doggo graphic for results from Kagi's index.

Allow the user perhaps when clicking the SHIELD icon to see where (which DB) the search result is sourced from.
