Widgets like the weather widget only work when I type "weather" in English, not "météo" in French, so I initially thought it didn't exist.

“Weer” and “rekenmachine” (Dutch) also don't trigger the weather and calculator widgets.
same for "Wetter" in german
Issue still persists.
eiter that, your search region or based on ip-location.
I personally think search region would be the best choice because it's also the option, that shows you results in the given language.
AFAIK people (at least in germany) often use the english inferface language even if they want to search in german.
When I search, for example, for "weather Milano" I successfully get a weather widget with the correct location. However, the widget does not appear when I perform the above search in my language (Italian), that is "meteo milano" does not display the widget. "Meteo" is the Italian word for "weather forecast". I think it would be nice to have a list of words in other languages that map to the same weather widget, for example searching for "meteo [CITY]" would display a weather widget for Italian users, and so on.
The user will naturally and immediately obtain a weather widget in their own localized language, which is actually what most people do when they search in their own language.
