Gray timezone box in map should reflect the actual timezone outline

Steps to reproduce:
Search for something like “london time”. A map like this shows up:

The gray box on the map is just eyecandy, but people might mistake it for the actual timezone outline. Or they might want to know how the outline looks like, and the box isn’t helping.

My first reaction was “oh, that’s a nice visualization”, which then got replaced a few seconds later by “wait, that’s not the actual outline, what a bummer”.

Expected behavior:
The outline on the map should represent how the timezone actually looks like, e.g.:

Guess this will have not become easier nowadays especially with all the different border claims in Asia, plus, while timezone updates by themselves are already annoying like hell, they'd have to update the maps manually all the time.

Maybe just add a warning it's only the approximate placement of the timezone and no indication of its actual shape? And then maybe not use a sharp bordered bar to mark it but some kind of opacity fade out, so the design also makes it clear it's approximate.

warpspin I agree that geopolitics is an issue that one should attempt to stay out of, and certainly for something as nonessential as a timezone visualization that’s mainly decorative.

However, Kagi already has a world map. They’ll run into these problems anyway, whether their timezone visualization is accurate or not. 🤷‍♂️
