One thing I’ve struggled with since signing up for Kagi is no matter what plan I choose, I’m not able to get something.
Previously, I really wanted unlimited searches but also access to Kagi Kids. No matter how much I was willing to pay, there was no option for that.
With the recent billing changes (which I love, by the way—usage based billing stresses me out; the results were so good I begrudgingly dealt with it), I’m in a similar situation again.
I would love to get access to the Ultimate features and see what you guys have cooking (as well as support things a little more!), but I can’t do that without losing access to the family plan.
I would love to see some sort of option that lets me buy everything you’re offering.
My initial thought was to suggest “Ultimate” be a $15/mo add-on rather than tied to the subscription tier. Obviously I have way less visibility into what’s upcoming and the financials of it all, but would it be an issue for a starter user to pay $15/mo to support you and get early access to some shiny new AI tools? If the margins on those features are quite slim and you’re worried about people abusing it on a family plan, it could even be enabled per-account rather than per-subscription—I can add it to my account and leave it off my wife’s. Or pay another $30/mo to enable it for both.
However given part of the motivation for the changes seems to have been simplifying things I can see how that would drive a lot of complexity.
The simplest option I could see would just be a “Family Ultimate” plan. Even if the pricing it would require makes it an unattractive option, I’d personally love if it was available and deemphasized in the plans page or something rather than not even an option at all.
For whatever it’s worth—currently one unlimited account and a family plan (to access kids) would run me $45/mo (but require two separate accounts and leave me unable to directly access the kids features from my account). I don’t think I’d struggle too hard to sell that to myself. $35-40 would be a no brainer. $50 is probably about where I’d start hemming and hawing, but probably still ultimately just pull the trigger.
I love what you guys are doing and love the product. Converted to paying the first day of my trial and brought a few friends over within the next few days (though honestly, it really wasn’t a hard sell!). Please let me buy everything you’re doing!
