Yandex bangs redirect to Kagi in MacOS Safari

Steps to reproduce:

Attempt to use a Yandex bang (!yan, !я, !yat, or a custom bang using the url "yandex.com/search/?text=%s") in the Safari URL bar or in the search input on Kagi.com
2a. For all bangs except !yan (yandex.com), you will be redirected to https://kagi.com/search?q=[query]
2b. For !yan, you'll be redirected to yandex.com, without a query parameter (https://yandex.com).

Expected behavior:
I would expect to be redirected to yandex, with the query I entered provided as a query parameter, with search results for that query displayed

Debug info:
MacOS 13.2.1, Safari 16.3, Kagi region US-WEST, Kagi Safari Extension v 1.0.3

Troubleshooting Steps

Tried various combinations of custom bangs
Tested in Orion, works just fine there

This appears to be a problem with Kagi Safari Extension.

As a note it is open source if someone wants to provide a PR to fix this

This happens because the official Kagi extension redirects all of Safari’s built-in search engines to Kagi. You can instead use the more advanced “xSearch” extension, which a “blacklist” mode where only the search engine you choose is redirected to Kagi.

Or use Orion browser with Kagi built in.

Thanks for the recommendation Jop, I'll check out xSearch. I'll take a look at the extension repo too, Vlad. No experience with Swift but could be a good opportunity to learn a bit. Thanks, both.

I'm able to repro this issue even when navigating directly to https://yandex.com as well as https://duckduckgo.com. All searches are directed to Kagi unless I explicitly deny the Safari extension access to these sites in Safari > Settings > Websites:
