@Vlad
Just made an (admittedly trial) account today. Very excited about the product. This was the first thing I noticed. When I saw this option to customize, I too was similarly expecting the results to be centered, not the entirety of all possible content that may or may not be presented to be centered. I actually thought it was a shockingly prominent bug until I saw this (and other) threads on the topic.
I get this is probably "as designed" behavior due to needing to preserve space for the infobox. However, it doesn't really match the expectations Kagi is creating by offering an option to "center" results (indeed the setting references results, not the entire UI. In general, I don't include the wikipedia infobox in my head as a "result"). The fact that changing the setting on smaller screens doesn't seem to do anything makes the situation worse. I personally didn't think "oh, seeing the results of this change requires me to also change my zoom or screen resolution settings."
If this option to customize the appearance to center the results is kept, I'd suggest this to help meet the expectation that is being created for some people:
- Actually center justify the list of results in the middle of the page.
- Put augmenting information and experiences to the right of the result if space allows for it (like on ultra-wide screens).
- For smaller screens below 1680px (I just added the width of the main region's box and the wikipedia infobox box's x2), put the infobox above the results in an expandable section. Perhaps with a rounded box around it to stylistically distinguish it from other results.
I hope this is helpful.
