Alberta time incorrect

mch

Alberta recently stopped daylight savings time, going from Mountain Standard Time and Mountain Daylight Time to Alberta time, which is UTC-6 year round. The little widget at the top of a search shows incorrect time now.

Searching "alberta time" should show the correct time and time zone (ABT).

The update to timezone info was in this release: https://www.iana.org/time-zones/releases/2026c

Time in British Columbia is also incorrect now, for the same reason.

Search current time in vancouver.
Or, with location set to BC, search current time.

Both searches show UTC−8, PST, which is an hour behind the actual time, UTC-7, PDT. The current time answer doesn't seem to use the device's clock, because my device has the correct time.

British Columbia moved to permanent daylight time. The last clock change was on 2026-03-08, and clocks did not go back on 2026-11-01. Vancouver stays on UTC−7 all year. This should be reflected in the widget.

Example: Search for the term "What time is it in Vancouver, BC" and it will tell you the incorrect time.

British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, and parts of Ontario switched to permanent Daylight Time this year, so their clocks did not shift back on Nov 1st. The search results still give times as though the clocks had shifted (Standard Time), which is incorrect.

Searches asking for times in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, and select parts of Ontario should display the accurate time (Daylight Time all year).

A lot of Canadian provinces have gotten rid of their daylight savings time changes, when searching for these cities it now shows the wrong time:

Current time Vancouver
Current time Calgary
Current time Winnipeg
Current time Kenora Ontario

All of those are now ahead by 1 hour, time zones are permanently PDT, MDT, CDT, CDT respectively.

Importantly, only part of Ontario has moved to permanent daylight time. The majority of Ontario is eastern time and that still observes the time change.
