I find it helpful to be able to make a story as read and then no longer see it anymore. This makes reading the stories more like a todo-list that can be completed. I know that stories can be read and then the blue checkmark is shown, but I would prefer they are hidden entirely.
This would help simplify reading news by removing the clutter of already-read stories being shown.
