I’m using the Kagi for Safari extension on my iPhone (version 2.2.8, iOS 26.6, iPhone 14 Pro Max), and it’s been working great for months, but in the last few days the redirect has stopped working reliably.
I’m using Ecosia as my redirect search engine, and when I type a search query in the address field, it sometimes opens Ecosia and doesn’t redirect instead of redirecting to Kagi.
If I try submitting the query multiple times (tap the address field, tap submit), it usually eventually works. A lot off the time it works first try, I would estimate it breaks maybe 30% of the time?
It seems like if a query works first try it always works even if I retry, and if it breaks, once I retry enough times for it to work, it then works every time, so I’m having a hard time reproducing it e.g. for a screen recording.
I’m pretty sure it started just before I upgraded to iOS 26.6, but I won’t say that with 100% confidence, it may also have been just after. But I think this has been going on for a few days now, and I only upgraded iOS about 24 hours ago.
Specifically, what I do is:
- Tap the “address/search bar” in Safari.
- Enter a search query
- Hit the arrow/submit button on the keyboard
- Observe that the search query sometimes opens in Ecosia instead of Kagi.
- Tap address bar again, it has the search term instead of a URL. Hit submit again.
- Repeat 5 until I get Kagi instead of Ecosia.
The search engine is set to Ecosia in my Safari settings, and it’s the selected search engine in the Kagi for Safari settings too.
I expect the redirect from Ecosia to Kagi to always work, like it did in the past.
