I had originally thought the "unlimited searching" of the paid search tiers included api searching, but it seems like it doesn't. Given the prevalence of AI and the likely shift to more private or local Ai, having to pay for both normal search and then api search on top of it feels pretty bad. Especially since I use nowhere near enough of the regular search to make it worth $25/mo for the ultimate. It might not need to be unlimited api searching, but at least a strong stipend of it should be included so people feel like they are getting value and not knickel-and-dimed by doing both things.
Less a feature and more a suggestion on pricing
Edit: None of this is preventing me from doing both things currently and I do still find a lot of value in both. The comment is lore that when you are not monetizing on ads, there is not a functional difference between a user on your site and using the api, so rolling them together in some fashion and providing a stipend would be very appealing to non-power users while also allowing api pricing for heavy use.
