Summary
Domains I have blocked in Settings → Personalized Results → Blocked Domains still appear as quoted/cited sources inside Quick Answer summaries. The block works correctly for the main ranked results (those domains no longer show up in the blue links), but Quick Answer ignores the block list and continues to pull quotes from them. Wikipedia is the most common offender for me, but this applies to any blocked domain.
This appears to be a regression (or an incomplete fix) of feedback thread #2405 — "Blocked domain still appears in 'confident answer'", which was marked Done in November 2023. The behavior is back, now affecting Quick Answer specifically.
Query
Any query that triggers Quick Answer where a blocked domain is a high-authority source. Example:
?what is the capital of France (with wikipedia.org in my Blocked Domains list)
Quick Answer produces a summary and cites wikipedia.org as one of its reference pages, despite the block.
Steps to reproduce
- Go to Settings → Personalized Results and add wikipedia.org to Blocked Domains. Save.
- Return to the search box and run a factual query that would normally surface Wikipedia, appending ? to trigger Quick Answer (or enable Auto Quick Answer in Settings → Search AI Settings and search normally). Example: what is photosynthesis?
- Observe the main results — Wikipedia links are correctly removed/buried. ✅
- Observe the Quick Answer panel — Wikipedia is still quoted and listed as a cited source. ❌
- Repeat with other previously-blocked domains — same behavior.
Expected behavior
Quick Answer should not surface, quote, or cite any domain the user has explicitly blocked. The block list should be treated as a hard exclusion across all Kagi surfaces that select and present source content, including Quick Answer, Direct/Confident Answers, and Answer Summaries — not only the ranked results page.
Actual behavior
Blocked domains are honored for ranked results but ignored by Quick Answer, which continues to quote and cite them.
Why this matters
Blocking a domain is an explicit user signal that the source is unwanted (low quality, biased, redundant, etc.). When Quick Answer then surfaces that same domain as the primary quoted answer, it undermines the personalization feature and hands the blocked source the most prominent spot on the page — the opposite of the user's intent. This is especially impactful given Quick Answer's prominent placement.
Suggested fix
Apply the user's Blocked Domains list as a filter to the candidate page pool before the LLM selects sources to summarize, so blocked domains can never be chosen as a Quick Answer source.
