As mentioned here, I’d like an option to automatically mark threads as permanent when they’re added to a folder, while keeping the existing "Mark as permanent" button unchanged.
Additionally, it would be useful to define this behavior per-folder, allowing users to override the default setting for specific folders.
Automatic Permanent Marking on Folder Addition:
Users could enable a setting (e.g., a toggle in folder preferences) to automatically mark threads as permanent when moved to a specific folder.
Example: A user creates a folder called "Important Projects" and enables the auto-permanent toggle for it. Any thread added to this folder is instantly marked as permanent, ensuring it isn’t archived or deleted accidentally.
This reduces manual steps, especially for high-priority threads that are frequently referenced.
Per-Folder Override:
Users could define exceptions for specific folders. For example:
A folder "Temporary Research" could be set to not auto-mark threads as permanent, even if the global setting is enabled.
A folder "Archive" could ignore the auto-permanent rule entirely, preserving its original behavior.
Backwards Compatibility:
This allows granular control over thread retention policies.
The existing "Mark as Permanent" button remains unchanged, ensuring users who prefer manual control aren’t disrupted.
Folders without the auto-permanent setting retain their original behavior.
This feature would enhance efficiency by reducing repetitive tasks while maintaining the flexibility to customize retention policies per folder.
