When I ask Kagi Maps for directions, the options it gives are for Drive, Walk, and Bike. It would be great if there was an additional option for transit directions.
Bonus points if I can upload my own GTFS file for transit services Kagi Maps isn't aware of -- this is the thing keeping me off of Apple Maps, as its transit directions are useless to me because it isn't aware of my local transit service and there's nowhere to upload the GTFS file to make it useful. Google Maps is aware of it, but I try not to use Google services as much as possible. At this time I'm essentially forced to use Google Maps for this reason alone.
Even more bonus points if it makes note of if the transit service will be closed overnight (especially since my local service closes for the weekend) and puts some sort of message like "you may need to bring a bike or use rideshare for part of this trip", and adjusts directions based on what you select for that part of the trip.
Perhaps this is a lot to ask for 😅 but this would be the perfect navigation app for long-distance no-car trips if implemented, especially in areas that don't have the best public transportation.
Let's say you have a resident from Maricopa, AZ that wanted to watch a movie that airs in a theater in Chandler, AZ (and not any closer).
In order to perform this trip without access to a car, this person would need to take advantage of Maricopa Express Transit, Amtrak, and Valley Metro. The transit directions would need to account for all three services. Thankfully, Kagi itself wouldn't need to be aware of all three of these services, as all three services provide their own GTFS files.
If the movie is on a Friday, the return trip would get this person back to Maricopa while Maricopa Express Transit is closed. It is during this part of the trip that Kagi Maps would provide a notice that the final stretch of the trip requires the usage of a bike or rideshare service. This would by itself make it even better than Google Maps, which just expects you to wait at the stop for the full two days with which the transit is closed.
