Dear All,
I've read the news about Kagi Translate. As a paying customer, I've generally been thinking that it might be worthwhile to enable a "Ctrl+Enter"-to-translate option (or something similar) for paying customers as well. (As far as I know, this feature has only been available to non-logged-in users so far).
The idea: I often want to write the text to be translated directly in the field, but I don't need the translation to be constantly active. Enabling a "Press to translate" feature would help save Kagi's resources and simultaneously ensure that we don't consume more than necessary (and ultimately have to pay more).
Option 1
An opt-in feature for a button/shortcut to start the translation.
Option 2
Alternatively, it could be handled dynamically: if a user is typing live in a field, the translation is paused and only restarts when a button or shortcut is pressed (or after a certain amount of time has passed).
If, on the other hand, text is pasted in, the translation starts immediately.
Additional thoughts
The team or the community will have to decide which option makes the most sense. I'm also not sure what the expected UX behavior would be here. But I would welcome some form of resource conservation, even as a paying customer.
I primarily see other users use this as it can be distracting to see live translations happening while still typing your original text. Furthermore, some users might share concerns on sustainability / pricing and don't mind the adapted behaviour of Kagi translate.
Similar behaviour is/was visible with other apps, including the free / not-logged-in experience of Kagi translate, as far as I can tell.
