The Assistant allows editing previous prompts/messages within a thread, creating branches of the thread, but any files uploaded as part of the previous messages cannot be removed or replaced. When editing a message containing an attachment, the attachment disappears and it is not clear the edited message will even include the attachment.
Feature requests: The 'Edit' button (pencil icon) should:
- Not hide attachments part of the original message being edited while the message is being edited.
- Allow removing attachments from the edited prompt.
- Allow uploading new attachments as part of the edited prompt.
Feature 1 will make it easier to understand that previous attachments are included in edited messages.
Features 2 & 3 will allow the user to modify uploaded attachments without having to start a new thread. E.g. They submitted the wrong file or wanted to try the prompt again with a modified version of the file. This is particularly useful when files were uploaded in later messages, where starting the conversation over from scratch would incur considerable credit usage relative to being able to modify the attachments with the prompt.
