The new UI for Assistant is worse in every measurable way

Umbrella5565 I really hope they dont mindlessly make changes to be more similar to these other ai platforms. I would prefer they only take what works/the good parts and preferably posting it here as a potential change for us to vote on

Yes I am pretty surprised that I lost most of the Tags I used when the Threads were migrated to Folders.

It is important that you warn the user with a message like "Please note that if you have at least one Thread which uses more than one Tag, we will select one of your Tags at random as the Folder name and you will lose all other Tags"

I used multiple Tags for many Threads : e.g. "Work" + "Python" + "Training Material". After the upgrade, such a Thread is moved to ONE folder, but so far, I have not found the logic used to select the folder.

Suggestion to the Devs: Maybe offer to create folders that uses ALL the Tags; so in the example above the folder could be "Python - Training Material - Work", while another Thread could be moved to "Python - Work" if it was using those 2 tags only

Mislav This is just the first step in many more to come and a foundation for all the changes we want to make. There are already internal builds being worked on with much more advanced functionality, search improvements, mobile apps etc.

The Kagi documentation notes: "We continue to relentlessly focus on the core search experience and build thoughtfully integrated features on top of it." However, from my perspective, Kagi is instead relentlessly focusing on everything other than the "core search experience."

Perhaps Kagi could place a moratorium on enhancing AI features and use that time and those resources to address the numerous deficiencies and defects in the "core search experience" that have accumulated in this forum? I suspect that most Kagi users became customers because of the search, and thus focusing on search enhancements seems to be a straightforward strategy for success, no?

Removing tags is a huge regression, they're really useful and there are many threads in my roster that have multiple tags. Team - think about why people use this product. It's not complicated to have tags around - costs you little and helps us a lot...

Yes, I got hit hard by the conversion of threads with multi tags being automatically categorised into a single random folder from the multiple tags it was originally tagged with.

I try to be not so negative but I also really detest these kind of cosmetic changes being pushed on users willy nilly. There should really always be an opt-out unless you're a Google, Twitter or Facebook and are providing a "free" service.

I would really love if there would not be this "hovering box" on top of the Assistant interface that just for no reason at all covers what is going on. It's suspiciously close to what is nowadays termed a "dickover". Please .... no. Can the web not move on from these toxic patterns? Not everything is a chat.

I also have to say the new styling scheme (fonts, line density etc) makes a thread seem less readable than how it was before.

The new tagging/ folder system I could live with.

Using the new UI has irked me so much I had to stop what I was doing to provide feedback.
I can only fit about 4 lines in the chat window before it starts hiding what im typing.

For what reason?
I have to go out of my way to click the maximize (which will be forgotten upon next refresh) so I can see more than 3 sentences.

They may seem like little things but all these little things add up.

If you need us to bare with you for multiple days maybe this shouldnt of been a hard switch? Maybe the new UI could have been available to users, and prompted just the same with a button to switch or stay, but once switched maybe NOT of made us hardstuck on the new UI? What a bait!
Good god man we need to be able to use the old UI yesterday.

I hope the old UI is available before end of month otherwise Im just going to have to downgrade my sub to just search. The assistant is just so aggravating to use now.

There is another thing I don't like: when you search your threads, the result now show up in a jumble. Even though with the un-searched threads, the newest threads are on top. Frequently the most recent matched thread is actually the last one in the list ...

And yeah, I also miss the "last week" "last month" dividers for the list and for search result (or how it was)

I'd very much prefer to go back to the old UI as long as it still exists. I'd like to say that I just directly visited assistant.kagi.com to see what the fuzz is about. I was not aware that this sets a flag in my account without the possibility to go back. Since I directly visited the domain I obviously never got a warning or anything.

EDIT: Is there a possibility to contact support to revert back to the old assistant UI?

But: I miss custom CSS and tags a bit; can we have those features back or re-implemented, please?

From being a great tool the assistant went to a neutered UX version of any other no-name AI chatbox. It feels like the previous design was made by/for someone who actually uses the Assistant as a knowledge tool, and the new design is made for other kinds of customers. Here's what's worse, tanking your value-add.

Folder Pane:

no tags. How are we supposed to sort our mess? Threads don't belong in only one place at a time. Example: #Work -> #TopicA #TopicB #TopicC etc.
the folder pane forgets its state on refreshes and shows only the top 3 items. the previous pane showed all my tags
there's no view of threads by date - the previous view was convenient because it was possible to select a tag and see the latest threads in a secondary pane
so... there's no two-pane view - a problem in itself
there are no date dividers (that was massively useful)
there are no dates on the threads on the pane either
multi-line chat summaries are gone so now I have no idea what really was in the thread. this is also really bad

no floating cost/copy pane - I used it all the time
insufficient feedback when the model is "thinking" after the query has been submitted; what is it doing? three dots are blinking... and blinking...

Models:

the choice of models on the Pro plan seems to be constantly shrinking

I had to take 15 mins out of my day to write this - I really like Kagi, and liked the Assistant and hope you guys succeed.

niu3 Agreed. Threads should also at the very least be organisable by tags within folders. Useful to organise large projects.

About the sidebar,
moving to a single sidebar (the old Assistant used a two sidebar approach) involved a few trade-offs that we're still working through. To address your points directly: 2, 3, 5, and 6 will be solved soon.

What we had previously was just a snippet of the thread's opening text. We still use that layout when you use the sidebar search but it felt very heavy in the single sidebar.

We're actively working on this. On top of that, we have major improvements coming to the whole answer experience and the current purple boxes will finally be gone. The team is putting a lot of effort into all of this, please keep the thoughtful feedback coming

i have used the new ui and i have noticed aditional things that are just off..

the website loads slower than any other kagi website
expanding folder for a first time in a sessin of that ui is terribly slow when the folder has just like 4 threads in it
switching between threads is slowe
hittin the "kagi products" button in upper right loads slow with visually distracting loading, and its slower

the only thing that is fast is how they screwed with us. but another thing is the "show more folders" button, that thing shows more folders real fast
