All tagged assistant conversations now show as untagged

Don't know if I've encountered a bug, a transient issue that will resolve itself, or something else, but I'm seeing some weirdness with tags in the assistant. Two things are happening:

all tags that show being used in one or more conversations reveal no conversations when I select the tag in the side bar. The conversation list is empty
When I click "All" and go through all my conversations, they all now show as "untagged" (except for a few tagged "Public")

The first time I noticed this was this morning. I've tried several different web browsers, mahines and OSes. Mobile and desktop.

I've got lots of conversations, most of which have one or more tags. I was confused this morning when I clicked around on several tags, and there were no conversations under any of them.

Experiencing the exact same behavior described in this thread.

Environment:

Browser: Brave (also tested in Brave private window — same result)
OS: [fill in your OS]
Date first noticed: June 1, 2026 (was working correctly on Friday, May 29)

Reproduction steps:

Open Kagi Assistant
Observe full thread list in left pane, with tags visible in sidebar showing correct thread counts (e.g., "shopping 5", "Networking 4")
Click on a tag that contains threads (e.g., "shopping" with 5 threads)
Result: Thread list becomes completely empty; right pane loads the first thread from the full list instead of showing threads filtered by that tag

Expected behavior:

Clicking a tag should filter the thread list to show only threads associated with that tag
Tagged threads should display their associated tags when opened

Additional observations:

Tags still appear in the left pane sidebar with correct counts (e.g., "shopping 5", "Networking 4"), suggesting the tag data still exists in the database
However, when opening any previous thread, the only visible tag shown on the thread is "Temporary" — all original user-assigned tags are not displayed
This means the tag-to-thread associations appear to be broken or overwritten: the sidebar still knows the counts, but the threads themselves no longer carry their original tags
All threads appear as "untagged" when browsing the full list (except for "Temporary")
Issue persists in private/incognito window (rules out cache/cookies/local state)
Issue persists across the account regardless of browser or device
Was working correctly on Friday May 29; broken as of Sunday June 1
Likely related to the database maintenance performed May 30–31

Workaround: None found. Threads are still accessible via "All" but cannot be filtered by tag. Original tags are not visible on individual threads.

Tags → Folders is a regression — please reconsider

Just received this message this morning:

Move to the new Assistant
Tags are now folders
Your existing tags will become folders. Threads can now belong to one folder at a time, so threads with multiple tags will be organized into a single folder during migration.

Tags are many-to-many, folders are one-to-one. A thread about "shopping for networking equipment" belongs in both categories. Folders force me to pick one. That's lost context, not simplification.
Our tag data is already gone. All my threads now show only "Temporary" — the organizational work I built up was silently erased, and the migration will further reduce multi-tagged threads to a single folder with no way to control which tag survives.
Folders + tags can coexist. A thread lives in one folder but carries multiple tags. This is how Obsidian, Notion, and Gmail work. Please consider it.
I'm holding off on migrating until the tag system is restored or multi-label capability is confirmed in the new Assistant. The old system may be broken, but migrating now means accepting a permanent downgrade with no way back.

I have also had the same issue that all my tags conversation lists are empty even though they have a count, and conversations are now untagged.

I also worry about the migration stating that threads with multiple tags will be organised into a single folder during migration -- what will that folder be, a concatination of the tags? the first tag? the last tag?

this is a major regression of functionality. I don't want to lose my ability to find things that were tagged because they have been placed into a different folder.

As an aside, very keen for the "top up" feature, as I asked a coding question that burned up most of my credit early in the month.

Hi all, just to confirm, the issue you're reporting is with the old Assistant, and you haven't migrated yet, is that right?
