Embeddable Site Search

Offer a service where companies can embed Kagi search into their websites (for a fee) and get a site specific search.

Google offer this via their CSE service but many companies have issues with that due to GDPR and Google ranking.

Bgidley Do you know of any concrete companies that would do this if we had this offering?

@Vlad, I can’t say which companies would embrace such a Kagi product to use on their own website, but Algolia is similar to Google CSE/Programmable Search and seems to be everywhere these days. SearchWP is similar but specifically for WordPress sites. So, it does seem like there’s at least something of a market there.

The great thing about CSE is the cost – free – which makes it attractive for hobbyists and community groups.

A feature like Google CSE would be great

In Google CSE, you can apply a filter to an internal site or group of sites with just one click.

Interesting idea! I can't remember a site that uses CSE so had to look one up

Lens is partway there, but CSE is significantly more powerful and flexible. For example, one custom search engine I created for myself has about 60 third-party websites to search for books. Some of the URLs have path wildcards like example.com/store/product/*. The CSE has result refinements for audiobooks, ebooks, physical books, and technical-style books, all either with or without DRM. The refinements let me add specific URLs already in the engine and rewrite the query with extra keywords (e.g. audiobook, DRM-Free). I tried to create something similar with Kagi Lens but it’s way too limited in its current implementation.
