I've been frustrated with 2 issues since a long time now:
- no search by language availability; there is only search by region
- regional searches barely giving me results in the desired language, almost always defaulting to English. even when I clearly perform the search in a specific language (no ambiguity with English).
This creates frustrating issues when doing research or just making quick searches.
My native language is German. I've set the Kagi interface language to English. I speak 3 languages: German, English, and a little bit Japanese. Searching for something in non-English has too much unnecessary friction. It's worse when looking for something in German language then Japanese (most likely due to the different language script involved).
Why is it not possible to search by language? What I think is more bizarre though is that I get too much English results when setting the search region to Austria (🇦🇹) and searching with German language; German results are either buried into insignificance or non-existent depending on the query. When a website is bilingual (German and English) Kagi is heavily biased towards the English version, when I want the German version instead, because I wrote my query in that language.
Is the interface language perhaps coupled with the search language? This would be kinda dumb if that's the case.
Before Kagi I used Searx and SearxNG with DuckDuckGo and Startpage as upstreams, and I rarely had language-specific problems there, only the quality and relevance of the search results was bad.
