I would love one language option for Hiragana, one for Romaji, and another for Katakana. Being able to translate to/from one specific character set would be extremely helpful. Japanese uses 4 different character sets, and when learning, you tend to focus on one of them at a time. I’m a new Japanese learner and when trying to fact check my Japanese I frequently see characters I don’t know, because they’re coming from other character sets I haven’t learned yet. It makes me think I’m wrong, even when I’m right. (I am wrong a lot too lol)
For implementation I imagine three new menu options below Japanese. One for each set.
A user would open the menu of languages, scroll to Japanese, and see four options.
- Japanese
- Japanese (Hiragana only)
- Japanese (Katakana only)
- Japanese (Romaji only)
They would then be able to select one of these, and any translations done with this selection will limit the characters used to this set.
