Wildcard suffix domains don't work in lenses but do in a normal search

I'm trying to create a more global academic lens that searches across *.edu[.*] and *.ac[.*] domains. Yes, I know there's one built-in - but from what I understand, it only searches *.edu domains - which limits it to USA institutions. If I add ac.* to the list of included sites, nothing is returned. If I do a normal web search with a site:ac.* search operator, I get results from educational organisations around the world.

A search with a site: operator and a lens with the same include/exclude site with a wildcard should work similarly. Wildcards should work as a prefix and a suffix to a (partial) domain name.

decayingposture This might be similar to issue 10419 (https://kagifeedback.org/d/10419-lenses-dont-appear-to-support-queries-anymore) which was suggested by a staff member that the issues occurred due to a refactor last month. Please vote so we can get more eyes on getting lenses fixed.

It's a bit more complicated than that, but yes it does include .edu domains.

Are you expecting site:ac.* to match domains like ac.foo.bar.com or like foo.ac.bar.com or others?

EDIT: I just added site:ac.* to the default Academic lens

Note that I actually had to remove ac.* from the academic lens due to quality concerns reported by users on Discord. There is still the underlying issue of this not working with lenses, will fix.
