Context: I'm using Kagi Translate "chrome" extension in one of the chrome-compatible browsers. Not a heavy user yet: 3-4 times a week but growing steadily. Primarily as interactive dictionary, I'm learning new language and extending my vocabulary. So my typical use-case is to select passage or a word that I want to research/note. I love that (Kagi News have Translate + Anki integration). Occasionally I do a full page translation, but its often noticeably slow on the big texts or with a lot of elements (might be a combo of extension that I'm having). Which is absolutely fine for my use cases, its just something that I've noticed.
So, my feedback.
Great things:
- Rich settings, you can tune proofreading dialect - love this. Different modes and presentation options - more chance the one that suits you.
- Locality and private conscious solution - I didnt check, but I like that you're in the face about it.
What didnt work for me:
- Kagi integration icon: we need more options or user customisations (CSS, like in Kagi SE) - Kagi green icon is yelling in my palette sensitive eyes in certain applications. I dont want it to stand out, but be a natural part of native tools.
- More control in integrations: ie for comments there are certain languages I dont want to be translated. Its entirely possible that system language is not your "preferred" language. Life /=
What would be nice:
- Making extension code if not open source, but at least source available. It would further align with you mission. Not that its super hard to audit minified JS code, but I think community would appreciate this gesture and transparency. I did a quick search of what's available and could not find anything in public repos.
Regarding the implementation: I don't have anything particular in my mind yet.
