Sorry to hear about that experience. The plan's purpose is exactly as it says: a Starter plan, to have you try Kagi and its paid features at a lower point of commitment, and eventually upgrade if you find the value is worth it. Our Trial is a non-renewing 100 searches, Starter effectively lets you extend this indefinintely.
We have about 15k users who happily stick with the Starter plan as it is all they need; they don't search that often, but like having Kagi available, or perhaps subscribe for other reasons - like to gain access to Assistant or other features like Best mode in Translate.
If you decide to stick with us or try us again at a later point, please reach out to support@kagi.com with your account email listed and we can help you resolve the billing issue. Billing issues can be complicated and we're often up against the limitations of Stripe to provide a "perfect" UX for billing when it comes to payment handling.
