Adding context to why we're discussing this. Earlier this week I left a comment about this subject in a reply to another thread.
It's still early to discuss anything concrete, we still have a significant product roadmap ahead before we reach this stage which is why details are vague. But I wanted to share the direction we're considering and open it up for discussion.
Kagi started as a search engine with one subscription. Since then we've built Kagi Assistant, Kagi Translate, and more is planned (eg Email), so we're thinking how to evolve our pricing to reflect that.
Over time the idea is for each Kagi product to have its own free/trial tier and paid plan, with a discounted bundle available for all Kagi products together.
Why separating subscriptions?
- We're investing in Kagi Assistant and ramping up to make it a strong standalone product. For that to work, it needs to earn its place... people must be willing to pay for it on its own merits. Separating it lets us validate that the product direction is right, and change things if it isn't
- We're a small team, and having simple pricing lets us focus on building product instead of managing plan complexity and billing flows
This is the direction, not the final plan. And to be clear, Kagi Search subscriptions will still include some level of Kagi Assistant access. We don't know exactly what that looks like yet, which is why we're having this conversation.
We know there are Starter and Professional subscribers who find utility in the Kagi Assistant but haven't upgraded to Ultimate, and we'd love to understand why. What would make the upgrade worth it for you? If you're using another tool, what's missing from Kagi Assistant to justify you going through the pain of switching?
