I'm raising these because the way it's being communicated minimizes the cost to existing subscribers while overstating the simplicity of the result.

I think you're right, my earlier posts did not clearly discuss the trade off for existing subscribers.
And that trade off is: IF we move current starter+pro subs to a 1x allowance (ie no grandfathering) then people who today have a recurring AI allocation would lose that ongoing benefit, and for those users it's a downgrade.

The direction we’re exploring is a cleaner product structure: search and assistant as independently usable and payable products, with ultimate as the bundle (same would apply to the rest of the product portfolio). But true, “cleaner structure” does not automatically mean the transition for existing subscribers will be simple, fair point.

The honest answer to that point is that we have not worked out the path yet (not from a product, billing, data, or policy standpoint, etc), and I opened the conversation before we had that answer, and that gap understandably became the focus.

So I think a summary right now is: we see a "cleaner" overall long term pricing structure, where individual products are independently usable and payable w/ ultimate as the bundle. And that new structure would impact the Kagi Assistant and produce a worse outcome for some current subscribers unless the transition is handled carefully.
