Background
I recognize this is maybe a peculiar request, and some background might be helpful.
I am setting up kagi-news for my 80+ year old parent with dementia that has progressed quite seriously. Reading is something he enjoyed so much throughout his life, having a small library at home and even his own published works, and I'm hoping to cultivate his learning (in the science articles) alongside some basic awareness of global events (which does interest him). Reading is also such a useful tool (alongside other lifestyle changes) to slow the progression of dementia.
Fundamentally, Kagi news is almost perfect for what im seeking (and probably perfect for earlier stages of dementia). I just wanted to provide my feedback regarding what would need to be added to change it from a B+ to an A+ in terms of accessibility and my unique circumstances. (and many of these would benefit other use cases e.g managing news for a child)
Feature suggestions
- Make a simple one pager option merging 2-3 categories (perhaps only the top few from each category) Simplifying the layout without headers.
- Font settings (open dyslexic / atkinson hyperlegible, for those with vision impairments)
- The ability to lock settings, "parental controls" one could say. (Particularly for topic setup)
It shouldn't meaningfully impact existing workflows, only ameliorate the options of usage and in the case of the font, improve the accessibility of the app for those with low vision and/or dyslexia.
Rationale
Kagi news already does an amazing job of summarizing varried sources, and providing actionable information / background to help those like my parent who struggle to assess credibility and nuance. These small few changes would improve accesibility, improve a 'managed' experience for a child or older relative, and lastly provide an even simpler mode that would even be helpful for those of us lacking the time to review all of the different headers.
